I'm used to being smug about Turkish tomatoes and extolling the joys of a plate of sliced toms with olive oil, but I think the Swedes have taken the baton in the taste and variety race and left us standing. This is the small greengrocer I visited every day and there are 15 different types of tomato, ranging from deep purple to bright yellow and large round globes to tiny tubes. All taste as delicious as they look.
Wow. You are right. What can we say? But how are they grown? They look amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteUnder glass I suppose, but they taste fantastic BUT they are 65 SK a kilo which is nearly £7.
Deleteso many sizes, colors and varieties...how wonderful for you to have the chance to try them all...yes a tomato with a little EVOO...heaven!!
ReplyDeleteI did try them all and they were all good
Delete. . I'll trade the varieties for the climate any day!
ReplyDeleteNo matter how tasty the tomato, I prefer to eat it in the sun too.
DeleteBlimey, what a choice but how do they taste?
ReplyDeleteFantastic
DeleteB to B, Very impressive! I would have thought that the tomato growing season in Sweden is too short for so many varieties to have already made their appearance. Turkey's tomatoes are terrific but it's only been just recently that the different varieties have begun to appear in the market. I think in a few years, you may see some of these wonderful varieties in Turkey, too. İnşallah.
ReplyDeleteI worry that Turkey is phasing out the tradition village tomato that has such a good taste.
DeleteDo we need to start a 'save the village tomato' campaign?
DeleteWe get through a lot of them!
WOW!!! This looks amazing...never seen so many varieties in one store and I thought Italy had lots of varieties of tomatoes. What a choice....wouldn't know which one to pick or two.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the photo I assumed you were back in Turkey...this is amazing. Jx
ReplyDeleteI too assumed this was in Turkey, not Sweden. What a wonderful array - but like you, I need to eat my tomatoes sun-warmed. Waiting for our own little cherries toms to ripen - any day now!
ReplyDeleteAxxx
That's an amazing spread - we get some tomatoes from Holland here in England, and they do taste pretty good even grown under the glass - I agree though, nothing like it eating alfresco by the sun, even that means a few varieties! enjoy your trip,

Yum, yum and double yum. I developed a bit of an obsession for tomatoes when we lived in Turkey and now I can't live without 'em. That's an tomato lover's treasure trove!
ReplyDeleteI would never have guessed that shop was in Sweden! I didn't even realise there were so many colours of tomatoes. I'm glad they taste good as so often hothouse ones don't.
