Flag Iris
I've been unusually busy for the last week and my blog has suffered as a result. I didn't have time to write, but I've been carrying my camera around and couldn't resist stopping to snap these beautiful iris plants in front of a disused church in Hydra.
My first job yesterday when I got home to Bodrum was to rush out to the village to see if my pot plants had survived nearly two weeks without water. They had, but the weeds in the pots hadn't - which was an unexpected bonus. On the way back, I passed these iris growing by the side of the road.
Here I should write something philosophical about flag iris growing under different flags - but this week's travel has done little to broaden my mind and has left mine rather numb. All suggestions for a killer last line gratefully received.
Hard to come up with a killer line when you are flagging but it just goes to show we are all similar regardless of which flag we grow under
ReplyDeleteI was wondering whether they grow wild or whether they escaped from a garden. But that was the white ones we saw in Teos.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the lack of killer last line...
I love the thought of iris growing wild like this. They are certainly flying the flag. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAn old boyfriend's mother was called Iris. She flogged knocked off makeup in car boot sales but I don't suppose that helps much with your mental fatigue!
ReplyDeleteB to B, Glad you're back home safely. I'll bet your family said "Iris you were here last week."
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Iris's.....my Grandfather use to have a whole backyard full of them. Sorry about your flowers in the pot....my problem is not them dying to lack of watering but those pesky squirrels and chipmunks yanking the flowers out or digging holes. :-(
ReplyDeleteTake care...
May I say it is lovely to have you back!:) The Iris look lovely. Selamlar, Ozlem
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for comments - hope to resume normal answering as soon as we are re-connected
ReplyDeleteNo killer line from me either. My brain isn't functioning much this week. Storms, internet problems, lack of time and enthusiasm I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteI love Irises. We had a few in our garden down by the wall at the front which grew for the first two years here. Unfortunately when the wall was rebuilt and garden dug over, they never appeared again.
My garden is full of iris but I had no idea they were called Flag Iris....so can't possibly come up with a killer line as I don't understand why they're called that....duh! Axxx
ReplyDelete. . flagging somewhat - consider your loyal band of followers - iris germanicus by the way.
