Happy Accountancy Day!

Let's all rejoice!  March 1st is Accountants' Day in Turkey and marks the start of a week of celebrations in some towns. (Well, I saw a sign for a football match and concert in Adana).  Does any other country honour this profession with its own day or week?  How do accountants let their hair down? Having been a teenager in the early 70s,  Monty Python introduced me to my first "accountant".  Time for all mountain climbing, paragliding, lion taming accountants to stand up and be counted.

  1. Well I never knew. Fancy an Accountancy Day. Maybe someone once decided that it is such a boring job that they should have a special day. (No doubt accountants won't agree that it's boring of course)

  2. It's nice to think that, somewhere in the world, accountants are having a special day. It probably makes up for the other 364. :-)

  5. It shows how bad my Turkish is. I thought that it was tax week....

Or maybe accountant's day is a part of tax week.

    1. I used to know most of the Monty Python sketches by heart - but there wasn't much for a teenager to do in the 70s.

  7. This is so interesting for me because my husband's sister's husband was a Chartered Accountant in Izmir.....and he just retired 2 years ago.....in his 50's.....Must mention this to my husband, never knew such a day would be noted for this profession.
.....love love The Monty Python, I think I've seen every episode a few times. I use to have a big crush on John Cleese and then in his other show Fawlty Towers.....thank you for the blast from the past.
    Hope you have great weather....

  9. . . what creases me is the annual posting in the newspapers of the league table of those who have paid their taxes and how much - everyone I know does their best to avoid being featured anywhere!

  10. B to B, You know I should have known something was up with Turks and accountancy when one of the first words I was given to learn in Turkish was 'muhasebeci' - accountant! The video was a hoot. Thanks.

  11. Dear Bodrum, I have so enjoyed Monty Python all these years. Those actors and writers had such a sense of the ridiculous. Thanks for the treat! Peace.
