Greek Week

I am back in Greece this week, enjoying the sudden change in weather from wet and wind to Spring sunshine.  I've been taking photos on my daily walks and I'm quite chuffed that those I've put on Facebook have been appreciated by friends.  I can't take any credit for these ipad-snatched snaps as Hydra is a truly beautiful island.  Strict building regulations insist that no concrete mars the winding stone streets and existing buildings can not be enlarged or added to.  Private cars and bikes are banned and everything has to be carried on two or four legs. Only the copious amount of donkey dung underfoot saves Hydra from a Disneyesque caricature of a Greek island. It is easy to forget here that Greece is well sunk in an economic dung heap from which it has 4 months to extricate itself.

  1. How lucky you are! Boy, are we ready for spring. Well, donkey dung is better than the dung of unscrupulous banksters that have sunk Greece in the mess it's in. We're pulling for Greece all the way. In the meantime, have a great time this week and have a pork steak for us.

  2. . . the Greeks have a history of fighting fascists and they are in the trenches again now. We have to hope that SYRIZA stops wobbling and the MOTU don't stage another military coup.
Nice pictures - reminded me of the time J and I were there; we arrived at our harbour-side hotel a bit knackered (as in donkeys and horses), took a nap and awoke to the shock of multi-story 'hotel' parked a few metres away.

  3. Enjoy your Greek week, Annie, and the sunshine which I hear there's been little of this winter.

  5. I too have been enjoying your gorgeous photos from Hydra. I love the sound of any place that bans concrete in favour of stone. :)

  6. You lucky thing. I could do with a bit of Greece too. We are off to Assos on Sunday though, our first trip since October, I think... so here's hoping we have an equally great time!
