Wild Weekend

My mother, Maggie, is staying with us this month and her friends in the UK keep asking her if she's enjoying the hot weather. These pictures will finish off that idea!

These photos were taken on Sunday from the shelter of Berk Balık restaurant.

January is a month of wild Lodos winds from the South that are warm but come with lashing rain and occasional hail, alternating with North winds that herald crisp mornings, bright blue skies but very low temperatures. This is our hibernation month where we disappear under duvets, electric blankets, triple socks and balaclavas - dreading the arrival of our electricity bills as any heat generated inside a modern Bodrum house goes straight through the walls.  We don't feel too aggrieved, this time last month we were sitting at these tables enjoying the sunshine and we will probably be back again before long.

  2. Oh those gale force winds at the top of this hill...quite scary. But you're right, it doesn't last long (dreading the electricity bill!). Spring is just around the corner x

  3. Gosh I am glad that you posted this I thought that you were exagerating on my post when you said you were having your month of winter.
I have only ever known wall to wall sunshine in Turkey, no rain and no wild seas. I love those waves on the first photo.

    1. most of us go through at least two new roofs and complete window and door change before we stem all the leaks.

  8. Wow you guys really have bad weather! Love the photos of that side of the coast. Here in Alanya we are freezing because of the cold winds coming down from Russia, but our big waves are not even comparing with what I see in these photos!

So happy to have found a new Turkey blog :)
