My poor knees.

After nearly three weeks of carting groceries up stone steps, my knees are crying out for mercy. Thank goodness I got into the exercise habit at b-fit in Bodrum over the winter and had at least built up a bit of muscle.  The first few trips from harbour to house nearly winded me but I'm almost used to it now. The early morning jog is not too bad but the afternoon slog with temperatures in the mid 30s needs a specially adapted headscarf to stop the sweat running off my forehead blinding me. After all my years living in Turkey, it is a hilly Greek island that has finally got me to cover my head with a scarf.

    1. That is just a few of steps. My calf muscles were in spasm for a few days but I feel quite fit now. I should be able to trot up to your house carrying a week's shopping

  3. Oof!! I don't think I'd survive one trip up that lot. I had enough trouble in Kos and in Rhodes years ago, being permanently on crutches and not getting on in that sort of heat either!! But it does look lovely - wish I was a) a lot younger and b) much fitter! Please keep the photos coming so that we can enjoy it at a distance!

    1. I think you'd be better off on the donkeys. I'd take one but at 10 Euros a ride I'd soon be out of pocket.

  4. I suggest a couple of strong lads and a wheelbarrow. Failing that, what about Migros home delivery? :-)

  5. B to B, After taking a look at your photos, I'm thinking that perhaps the trip down can put a hurting on those knees as well.

    1. The trip down is lovely but the distance apart of the steps makes a strange gallop or skip necessary every third step.

    1. Talking of primitive, I had to face the fuse box today. Haven't seen fuses like this for about 25 years in Turkey

  10. I've recently had to go up a steep hill twice a day to feed a friend's cat so sympathise entirely...though now I've stopped, I do miss the exercise. Suppose I could find a hill to climb round here - or pop off to a Greek Island. Hmmm...there's a thought!

  13. My knees are aching in sympathy at the thought, Annie. The steps remind me of the Italian hill towns I love, even to the shallow wide steps, that make it difficult to get into a rhythm when going up or down. Ouch!
