A New Bank in Town

There's a new bank in Bodrum. The name echoes my feelings about the current state of the Turkish Lira.

Oh Dear!

  1. Not concerned about what it sounds like to foreigners, then....

Although I can think of quite a few banks I could classify as odious....starting with Barclays who win by a short head from Credit Agricole....

    1. Can't be a good time to open a new bank but you think someone would have considered the impression the name gives in English

    1. Have a quick look at Kath's comment below. Banks used to keep money in shoe boxes.

  3. Dave and I has a giggle the other day reading the BBC news webpage about the scandal of the money in shoeboxes at the house of the Halkbanks CEO. Reminded us of our early days getting money out of our 'shoebox' in Isbank!!

    1. When I saw the news I did wonder if the Halk Bank official in question used to work in Bodrum Iş Bank.

  4. Not a good time to start a new bank, methinks, whatever the silly name. Let's hope for better times in 2014 (and maybe a change of Govt?)

  5. I must say, B to B, that although we as foreigners get more bang for our buck, I feel very sorry for small Turkish businesses that are getting slammed. Since they price rents in the Grand Bazaar and the new shopping malls, it's been a tough holiday season for them. They just wish they could have gotten some of what was in those boxes! Let's hope for the best. Hayırlısın.

    1. We lived with 6 zeros and 60% inflation before - we're all used to it.
