Another boating post. Despite my sailing background I hardly ever get out on the water so two boat trips in a week is a treat for me. This time it was all family. My parents visiting from England, my daughter on her day off from work, hubby and Jake the dog. This was Jake's first trip out to sea and for a 6.5 month old pup he was brilliant. He's a bit scared of gangplanks so had to be carried on board but happily sat on deck as we sped over to Kiremit Island near Gümüşlük. I thought he'd be phased by the noise of two 800hp engines, but he sat at my feet and seemed pretty laid back about the whole thing. He found a nice shady spot under the dining table and spent most of the day there chewing his toys. Transfer to the dinghy for his afternoon walk went without a hitch and, thoroughly worn out after a long ramble over the rabbit infested island, he slept all the way back to Turgutreis marina. I breathed a sigh of relief as we got back in the car to drive home; it could have gone so wrong but we left the decks as pristine as we found them. As my father commented, this dog has been on this planet before - he knows how to behave if you want to get invited back.

He's a super little chap and hat sounds like a great day all round.
ReplyDeleteI miss being out on the water...
It's great to get to sea today - even in a boat without sails.
DeleteJake is so gorgeous, BtoB, and how good that you can now take him out like that.
ReplyDeleteHe is a star dog as far as we are concerned.
DeleteWhat a cutie...reminds me of a doggy "Brandy" I use to have. He sure is well behaved for a puppy...... he's so lucky to have you.Looks like you had a very pleasant and fun boat outing with your Family and how very nice it must be for you that your parents are visiting.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with your parents and I hope that you are doing better with your cast. E.
Was Brandy a Bearded Collie - Jake seems to be looking more and more like a BC. My folks are having a good time sitting in the sun in sea side cafes.
Deleteyes...Brandy was a Bearded Collie. I got her when she was almost a year old.....she was being abused by these horrible people. They kept her tied up to a refrigerator door in the kitchen all day and would I'm sure hit her.
DeleteIn those days I paid a good price for her because I just couldn't leave her there and her hair was matted badly...it was one of my Dad's workers, eventually my Dad fired him.
She was very bossy, had a German Shepherd same time together and she would boss the Shepherd all the time. :-)
She was about 16 years old when she crossed over.
What a good boy he is. He has become part of your family so quickly. Aren't you glad that you found him and isn't he lucky? xx
ReplyDeleteThanks to you Ayak . Without your post, I wouldn't have known about him.
DeleteHow marvelous that Jake got his sea legs (more than I can say about this senior dog). And now he associates boat trips with going to rabbit-infested islands so he'll be eager for the next ride. Just looking at his photo makes one want to give him a big hug.
ReplyDeleteWe may have to invest in a doggy life jacket if we take him on sailing boats.
DeleteDid he chase the rabbits?
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't chase yet. Just looks on quizzically. We had lunch in a restaurant yesterday and he shared the space with two cats.
Deletewhat a cutie!! my 5 year old daughter has a soft spot for dogs, we have been admiring :) lovely post!
ReplyDeleteHe's got very soft fur so is favourite with 5 year old girls who like to stroke him.
DeleteLooks like the summer that didn't happen here - much better than rainy and cold England! Jake is so cute and very well behaved, I think your father is absolutely right about him!
ReplyDeleteIdske xx
Hi Idske - lovely to hear from you. Sorry you had such a wet summer. Hope for a warm October but don't hold your breath.
DeleteHe is absolutely gorgeous - my kind of dog exactly and well-behaved to boot. How lucky he was to find you too. Axxx
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky to have him,
ReplyDelete. . our dear old Border Collie used to come with us on our sailing cruiser in the UK - loved it! Which was a bit different from what my brightwork thought of his 'crampons'!
ReplyDeleteHello, I so like what your dad said about Jake: "this dog has been on this planet before - he knows how to behave if you want to get invited back." That just makes so much sense to me and lifts my heart. I've been away from blogging for about two weeks, and as an animal lover, I'm so glad to find this story about Jake on my return to your blog. Peace.
