Who would wish to be anywhere else?

My first two years in Bodrum were spent sailing the Gulf of Gökova.  Thirty five years later, there is still no better place to be.

Crystal clear water that flickers all shades of turquoise as the sun hits.

Unspoilt bays

Grilled fish, salads, fruit.

A boat party of 10 -  born in America, England, Holland, France, Germany, Turkey and Sweden - all living in Bodrum and all agreeing that we couldn't be in a better place.  As another relative cries off travelling to Turkey, I wish the newspapers would publish stories like this.

  1. I totally agree. Gokova has to be my favourite place in the world. Having just spent almost a year in the UAE, I'm finding a re-newed appreciation for this part of the world I call home.

  2. Boat trips are the best. They don't know what they are missing.

  3. Sadly it is your relatives loss - they don't realise what they are missing.

  6. . . as one of our mountain village neighbours said just a couple of days ago as we shared a beer, 'Despite all the problems there is still no better place to be.'

  7. I am just now scouring the net for a place over bayram. It has been years since I visited the Bodrum area, and was thinking of returning to Yalikavak or Gumusluk. Any thoughts? 4 people (and possibly my cat). :)

    1. Hi Terry - I would avoid Bodrum in Bayram at all costs. It is too overwhelmed and turns into Istanbul.

  8. The Gulf of Gökova is where I first dipped my toes in 1995. Sorry to hear about your relative. I'm sure the wedding will be good gig anyway!

  9. Thanks for the good news, B to B. I love to hear about great places in Turkey I had no clue about. We might just cruise on down some day. xoxo J and M

  10. I'm right back there with you Annie - the Gulf of Gokova is such a special place. We can't wait to see you and Esi in October and are counting down the days.

My hairdresser booked a last minute 'cheap deal' week's holiday to Kalkan - and just happened to be out there the week of the attempted coup! She LOVED Turkey, wasn't put off and is planning a return visit next year. I just hope the tourism business survives this difficult period.

    1. Good advert for Turkey if she chats over the haircut.

  11. Mmmmm, Gulf of Gökova...
I can understand people being put off from travelling to Turkey at the moment; if we didn't know the country, we might have a careful think about it from what we've seen being shared in the British press. On the flip side, we're also now less worried about travelling to countries that were out of our own bounds just because of what the media say abut them. Just difficult to get that across to people, isn't it.
Fortunately, our UK friends and family (dad - not other relatives) trust we're okay here and we're having out usual busy summer with them and they're having their usual great time.
Really hope your family can make it and if not, the wedding will be the lovely special occasion that it will be, anyway. xx
